How would you like to own a practically new Mercedes 190E 2.5L Evo 1, one of only 502 made? This stunner is going across the auction block this evening, has a mere 37,000 km on it and a starting bid of $14,000. Sure it's in Japan, but that's a minor detail because this is an Evo 1! A car so over-engineered it makes a W123 look slapped together and an engine built by Cosworth that makes them say "Yeah, we really did kick ass on this one didn't we?" It makes a BMW M3 seem boring and common. It makes an imported Skyline GTR seem lame. It has a plaid interior.
Yes, the price will probably be 4x the starting bid and you could buy 14.7 stateside Miatas instead, or you could buy a VW Rabbit GTI for half the starting bid and pretend it'll appreciate. Or buy this, put more miles than Doug ever did on his Ferrari with half the annoyance and know that you own a piece of racing history that can also fit groceries in the trunk.
Available for import by Nostalgia Imports, check them out on Facebook if you're interested: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Update: Went for over 4mil yen which is about $33,000 USD. Check out the other photos of it!

Screw it, Doug needs to buy a Cosworth Mercedes to replace the 360.

Agreed! It's in budget, semi-practical, much cheaper on maintenance costs, more reliable and rare/exciting without attracting everyone and their grandmother at every fill-up.

What do you all reckon this will sell for?

There's no auction inspection sheet shown and a $14k starting price seems very low, so for all I know this one could have been wrecked and rebuilt or may not otherwise be 100% legit. Assuming it's as nice as pictured, I'd guess $30-35k but really I have no idea and the selling price isn't usually posted. Evo II's seem to be more desirable (and maybe more rare?) and those seem to go from $50k on up.

Looks like it went for a little more than $35k
